May 5 2008, 8:26 PM EDT I have an answer for you and there is never a stupid question. Just inquiring mind thats all! To answer your question two of the sides of the pot are pushed inward and there is a little opening so they can crawl in but its to small of a hole for them to find and to crawl back out. Think of it this way Take piece of paper and make a funnel shape out of it. Now put a fly in the funnel and it can crawl out the little hole but sit the fly on the outside of the funnel and it would have a hard time getting back in it from the small end. I hope this helps it is the best way I could think to explain it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: I love the Northwestern
May 7 2008, 12:21 PM EDT Northwestern and crew is number one, Corneila Marie and crew is a hair behind them, Maybe because we got to know the Northwestern first or because they are the top. ? Still love Corneila Marie but I would like to see Capt Phil throttle Jake H. next time he gets out of line. Love you Jake H. but I don't think you can continue to get away with your stunts for much longer, Look at your brother he's got it down now. Do you find this valuable? |

May 7 2008, 1:35 PM EDT My uncle "Stuffy" was a crabber on the Chesapeake for 60 years. Now I know. the mild and mellow Atlantic seaboard aint Alaska, but the method is similar cause I used to help him pull his 'pots' Blue Crab pots are smaller thats all. He's bait them with spot, croaker or chicken necks. drop them in a string before the tides and pull them in the afternoon. Crabs are on the bottom they find the small opening to get to the bait. Once they stretch out they're in for keeps cause they're legs claws and backfins cant collapse thru the opening. some of the best tasting seafood ever. Do you find this valuable? |

May 7 2008, 8:58 PM EDT actually, as far as modern equipment goes: Time Bandit looks to be the most shipshape and modern craft in the fleet from what I can see. Northwestern is a classic ship, from the rake of the bow to the wide superstructure....but its a one-prop boat, one driveshaft....you lose that: you have problems....which is why the Northwestern was stuck in Dutch Harbor getting the solitary prop repaired....twin or trble screws keep the overall strain off the drivetrain...lessen catastrophic breakdowns and keep you going when one fails....correct me if I'm wrong. The Northwestern is a pretty ship however, I'll give you that Do you find this valuable? |

May 7 2008, 11:07 PM EDT Yeah the Northwestern is a nice ship and they have good equipment, but like any other boat or ship is gonna have problems whether its the crew or the ship itself but to my recallling quote me if im wrong, but the Cornelia Marie hasnt had any real problems with the ship or the crew like the other ships have had now and in the past except for the week that Phil was having a hard time finding crab. But i still say the Cornelia Marie is the better ship and has been right up there with Northwestern and and i think the Time Bandit as far as catches go. Do you find this valuable? |
