Holy C@#$!
May 15 2008, 2:14 PM EDT
I just read the article about your near death experience at sea. My best wishes to you and your family for a speedy and total recovery. I was angry at the Discovery Channel for cutting the Cornelia Marie out of this weeks episode, but I'll forgive them if you get well. I was hoping to attend one of the events that you do during the summer - forget it now. Stay home, do a favor for all those people that care about you and take this summer to heal. Take care.
Cathy

Here is a link I found to an article on the internet:

Also is a few lines from the article. Hope this helps!

And while Harris no longer has to do the heavy lifting anymore — his two sons help him out — he is hardly immune to injury. In a scene to be shown later this season, a monster wave pummeled his boat in January, causing him to fall out of his bunk. He punctured a lung and broke his ribs. But his condition worsened after a blood clot dislodged from his leg and traveled to his heart.

Harris almost died from a pulmonary aneurysm, and the remains of the clot are still life-threatening.

"I'm eating massive amounts of medicine" to break down the clot, he says. "I take them every day and pray."

Hmm... That is a big season spoiler. Do you think we should keep this thread going? I'd hate to ruin anything for viewers. 0  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

OMG! Yeah, a spoiler, but thanks for the info. As a nurse I am far too familiar with the danger of pulmonary emboli. My thought and prayers for a full and speedy recovery are with Phil and family. Now would be an excellent time to put up the cigs too. Keeping my fingers crossed. Do you find this valuable?

Anyone that goes on the Cornelia Marie website can read the article in the Captains blog. It's out there for the world to see. Sorry friends if I spoiled anything for anybody - I just thought others might want to know and share my concern for the big guy. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Hopfully Phil will get the rest and care he needs to make a speedy recovery. Pray the medicine gets rid of the clot.
We love you Phil.

Sorry if I spoiled it for anyone, just thought I would pass along the info I found. Maybe now that we are aware of the situation, we can all give him words of encouragement! Do you find this valuable?

I dont see this as a spoiler. We have clearly all been very worried about Phil and I for one have hoping he has been ok. Not knowing what has happened in the seasons yet, and not knowing how his health is today has been driving me crazy. We have connected to these guysand almost feel like they are family. This is real life with real people, not a script with actors. I would rather know now and be able to send some positive energy than to have to wait for a scene in the show.

This afternoon, the radio said something about Deadliest Catch fans and a tragedy. Didn't catch the bit. I hope it wasn't Phil. He reminds me of myself - too much stress, too many smokes, and way too much caffiene.

I'm a radio person by trade and have checked EVERY one of my show prep and news sites like AP. I can't find out anything.

Has anyone heard what this tragedy is???

Okay before we all panic, let's not. "Ivegotcrabs" (LOL, luv the name), please keep searching since you're in a position to do so.
While I was looking online I did stumble onto this website. Needless to say, I am not a fan of this "journalist", but hey, to each his own. How he could suggest that we watch waiting for a tragedy to happen is insane. Clearly there are sooooo many DC fans that luv the show, luv the crews and that's that!
From the website rlslog.net Here's his quote.....

Deadliest catch is back for its 4th season. I’m not sure exactly how this show keeps going, because they do the same stuff season after season. I guess people just really hope to see a ship capsize or someone go overboard, so they watch. I watch the show from time to time because my old lady likes it, so if you are in to reality tv, enjoy. I don’t know who this group GNARLEY is, as I’ve never heard of them. Their nfo is also severely lacking, resulting in a lack of info for posting. However, the quality looks fine.

So, feel free to check it out, and send him your thoughts.
Keep us posted "ivegotcrabs" LOL, great name!!!

Well, I finally got through to the DJ on the air (he works for a competitor and thought I was messing with him at first).

Apparently, he was gabbing about the show and why he couldn't believe he was addicted to it because "they just fish for crabs over and over".

I guess he follows the CM's website and was talking about Phil's accident. What I heard was him trying to do a Mike Rowe imitation of a typical pre-sell into commercial. "Coming up next on Deadliest catch, tradgedy strikes an already ill captian" or something. I wasn't the only one that heard it wrong. He said he took calls for over an hour after the bit. I've had them go bad myself. Radio isn't like the paper where you can go back and read the article again. A DJ usually only gets one shot.

It wasn't my intention to stir anything up. I just wanted to know myself!!

After reading through the DC section of Discovery dot com, I now know that if (God forbid) something did happen, it would have been posted here, post haste.

Yeah everyone's okay. Good snooping "ivegotcrabs", thanks. Actually, when I read your post, I thought it was about a fan getting hurt rather than a crew member. Either way, glad it was nothing. Can yous see how nuts we are about our guys?! Do you find this valuable?
