Matt's Anger Management
May 19 2008, 2:35 PM EDT I absolutely love Capt. Sig and the Northwestern crew, but am I the only one that was really bothered by Matt taking out his frustrations by hitting a live fish??? I mean, I guess it was reasonable since the fish couldn't punch back, and I know it was just bait, but come on Matt...next time why don't you wait until a defensless creature is dead before you "man-up" and punch it. Just a thought. 30 out of 48 found this valuable. Do you? |

May 27 2008, 11:18 PM EDT This guy obviously has issues - you can see it in his eyes. The only reason he hit the fish was because Jake kicked his a** - he figured the fish was a safe target because it couldn't hit back. 6 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Matt's Anger Management
May 29 2008, 12:20 AM EDT get a grip!!! Your serious about being bothered by someone punching a fish that is about to get it's stomach sliced open then hung from a rope in a crab pot and dropped to the bottom of the Bering Sea? At least the guy is working so you just sit on your couch and watch something else then...... 2 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

May 29 2008, 12:46 PM EDT That's funny. I total agree. Any living thing on a crab boat days are numbered. Watch dirty jobs and you'll see the end of a crabs life. That's dinner! 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Matt's Anger Management
May 29 2008, 1:03 PM EDT Altho, I think Edgar is a really smart guy and he being the deckboss and all, I just couldn't believe that he let Matt get to that point. As far as the fight goes, well fighting on land and at sea, esp. when the waters are so turbulent are 2 different things. Matt would've took Jake, but I'm glad Jake stood up to him. Is it me or does Matt always have a problem every year? Sheesh, Matt get it together! All in all, I love the captain and the crew of the Northwestern! 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Matt's Anger Management
May 29 2008, 1:25 PM EDT Well I watched the show everyday even reruns incase I missed something. I would rather Matt hit a fish then a fellow boatmate and cause injury to someone. The fish was gonna die anyway and be thrown into a crab cage as bate.. And i agree with Eraywt have you seen what happens to crabs once they get to the crabbing plant they get slammed against a metal things and cut in half then have their leggs ripped off to send to packing and such and they are alive till they hit that plant.. Same thing with Lobster they get thrown into boiling water and die of a massive heat stroke.. I would rather see Matt hit a fish then one of his fellow crabbers, and as for Edger not saying or doing anything, letting Matt attack a fish is letting Matt get it out of his system and allowing things to get back to somewhat of a normal and everyone can get abck to work.. My favorite boat is the Northwestern, being from Washington state and all... 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Matt's Anger Management
May 29 2008, 2:07 PM EDT One more thing. Fighting w/ Jake was so not the business. Like everyones pointed out, you just can't get careless like that on a boat. I think Edgar and Sig knows that Matt is a great deckhand. Ex., when Jake hooked another boats pot, Matt ran back with hook and grabbed theirs. Now that was nothing but experience right there! In a way he redeemed himself on that episode. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Matt's Anger Management
May 29 2008, 6:41 PM EDT Everyone loses their temper. I think we should put it in perspective -- these guys handle tons of fish and crab all day. I doubt they look at them as "poor, defenseless creatures," especially when he is about to split its belly open, as someone already said. Now, if he punched someone's *pet* fish or a domesticated animal, that would definitely be cause for alarm! I doubt PETA cared for this show, even before that scene. ;) 1 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

May 29 2008, 8:25 PM EDT "I agree. Oh, I think PETA knows better than to go up to Alaska protesting. What Matt did to that fish will be nothing compared to what those fishermen would do PETA protesters. I saw this clip on youtube of PETA protesters in Texas, and it wasn't a pretty confrontation. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Matt's Anger Management
May 30 2008, 10:47 PM EDT For what it's worth, I was also angry about Matt punching the fish. Sure - the fish is going to die anyway, but by natural causes most likely (out of water, etc.), but these things are not there for us as human beings to abuse for our own pleasure, especially the pleasure of taking one's anger out on a helpless being. Karma baby, Karma. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Matt's Anger Management
Jun 8 2008, 2:36 AM EDT Matt was just in the zone of "stinkin' thinkin'". I am not, however, excusing his behavior. I know he has a kinder side. It must be hard to keep positive and relaxed when you work 36 hours straight and get a 3-4 hour nap. That's about average for the Northwestern. Sig pushes his crew HARD, but my God...Look at those numbers. When they step on the plane with fourty grand in the bank, I don't think there is a lot to be angry about. They can sleep on the plane. :) 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Matt's Anger Management
Aug 1 2008, 4:38 PM EDT I don't normally watch this show, but I happened to catch this episode and seeing that guy punch the fish disturbed me. I googled "deadliest catch punch fish" and this thread came up. I joined the wiki just so that I could post that I agree with the other posters that this kind of behavior is ridiculous. It doesn't matter what was going to happen to the fish or the crabs. The fact that this fish is for bait doesn't mean it is OK to punch the thing. If you know you are going to be hit by a bus tomorrow, does that make it OK for me to punch you today? 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
