if you have a graduate about fisheries or ship-deck engineering you start from upper degree. But firstly you have to buy STCW certificas. this is contain safety rules, using transceiver , some medical rules etc. if you haven't any graduate you start from begining as young deckhand or young hand. i may dont know true word in english cause this is not my main language. it may called calloq. this is lower degree in seaman ship. You need to time and way(as mil) to rise degree. for example for being boatswain you need 2 year experience in master sailor or being shift officer you have to need minimum high school degree, min. VHF communication certivicate or min. high school degre and two year sea experience with limited captain certificate or 12 mounth experince in ship which is bigger than 500GT etc... i have a graduate about fisheries if i have a one exam i can start as limited captain, this is 6. degree within 12 deck category. there are also machine category and assistant category. if you have certificate or graduate about electronic you can start in assistant category. Do you find this valuable?
